Strengthening Community Support: Tackling Poverty and Empowering Lives

At MADE4U, we’re proud to serve the communities of the wider Wishaw area, walking alongside individuals and families as they navigate life’s challenges. Over the past few months, we’ve seen our work recognised on national platforms, formed new partnerships, secured critical funding, and—most importantly—continued to show up for our community.

Recognition from the Scottish Parliament

We were delighted to be acknowledged in the Scottish Parliament through motion S6M-15346, submitted by Clare Adamson MSP, following a successful public vote that awarded us £10,000 from the North Lanarkshire Community Empowerment Fund. This funding will support new projects aimed at expanding our impact in Cambusnethan and neighbouring villages.

This public vote was more than just a funding opportunity—it was a powerful message that our community believes in what we do. We’re deeply grateful to every individual who supported us, voted for us, and continues to champion our work.

National Lottery Funding and Our Holiday Hunger Response

Building on this momentum, we were thrilled to receive a further £43,396 from The National Lottery Community Fund. As outlined in parliamentary motion S6M-16400, this grant enables us to run essential activities such as signposting and advice support, cooking classes, and a pantry pilot.

Crucially, it allows us to continue delivering our Holiday Hunger Programme—a vital service for families in our community. With the unfortunate withdrawal of North Lanarkshire Council’s Club 365 programme, the responsibility to ensure children don’t go hungry during school holidays weighs even heavier. We’ve stepped up to meet that challenge, with the help of partners and funders who share our values and vision.

Celebrating a Successful Launch Event

Our recent project launch event was a brilliant example of community in action. It was a day full of connection, opportunity, and hope - exactly what MADE4U stands for. We welcomed a range of stallholders all playing a role in tackling poverty locally, including:

  • Citizens Advice

  • Changeworks

  • Routes to Work

  • NHS Health Improvements

These partners brought practical advice, useful resources, and pathways to empowerment directly into the hands of our residents.

A standout moment came from our young volunteers, who showcased their impressive Young Enterprise projects. Their energy and creativity were a joy to see - and a reminder that the future of our community is bright when young people are encouraged and equipped to lead.

Investing in Our Community Pantry

Another exciting development has been the renovation of our pantry space, just in time for the launch. We’re extremely grateful to Webster’s Tool Hire for their generous support and craftsmanship, helping us create a welcoming and functional environment that meets the growing needs of local families. This is a clear example of how business and community partnerships can create lasting impact.

Programmes That Make a Difference

Everything we do is anchored in our three strategic strands:

  • upSkill: Creating opportunities for people to grow in confidence, develop new skills, and realise their potential.

  • upLink: Building meaningful partnerships and connecting people to the support they need.

  • upSource: Redistributing surplus goods and sharing knowledge to tackle poverty and inequality.

Our Community Hub on Greenfield Drive is the heartbeat of this work—home to our Library of Things, meal provision, wellbeing sessions, and more.

Looking Forward with Gratitude

These recent developments have energised our team and reminded us why we do what we do. We’re inspired by the resilience of our community, the dedication of our volunteers, and the support of our partners. Whether it's a conversation at the pantry door or a young person stepping up to lead, we see change happening every day.

As we continue forward, we remain committed to strengthening our existing partnerships and welcoming new collaborators on this journey. Together, we are creating a more resilient, hopeful, and connected Wishaw.
